Ready to take a trip back in time in Bogotá? To begin this journey, we’ll meet in front of the Primatial Cathedral of Colombia. From there, after a brief introduction, we’ll walk to the Colonial Museum, our first stop.
For 1 hour, we’ll explore this museum, housed in a 17th-century mansion that once served as the residence of the Society of Jesus. Amid courtyards, hallways, and adobe walls, we’ll explore more than 3 centuries of colonial history. We’ll unravel the social organization of old Santafé, its hierarchies, its economic dynamics, and the central role of the Church as the axis of symbolic and political power.
After this first encounter with the past, we’ll set out on a walk through the La Candelaria neighborhood, the founding heart of Bogotá. We'll traverse its urban layout, a direct legacy of Spanish ordinances, where cobblestone streets, houses with continuous balconies, and tiled eaves tell the story of a city conceived for control, faith, and colonial administration.
During the tour, we'll make a brief stop at a local spot to sample a traditional snack from the cuisine of the Cundiboyacense highlands.
Next, we’ll delve into the Neo-Granadian Baroque style by visiting three of the Colombian capital’s most important churches. We’ll visit the churches of San Francisco, La Veracruz, and the Franciscan Church of La Tercera. At each one, we’ll take a closer look at their gilded altarpieces, religious imagery, and iconographic motifs rich in symbolism.
Finally, we’ll say goodbye in front of the Franciscana de la Tercera church after a 3-hour tour.
