On our day trip to the Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá, we'll discover one of the most fascinating underground monuments in the world.

Day Trip Details

We'll meet at the pickup point in Bogotá, and head northbound on the journey to the municipality of Zipaquirá. Our drive will take between 1.5 to 2 hours.

When we get there, you'll have 2 hours of free time in the Salt Cathedral. This religious temple was discovered 590 feet (180 metres) underground, making it one of a kind. Inside, you'll be able to admire the various sculptures and crosses made from salt as well as the marble elements that complete the collection. This truly is a unique church!

En su interior veréis esculturas y cruces de sal, así como otras tallas de mármol que completan la colección de este entorno tan especial.

During our tour of the Salt Cathedral, with a temperature that never exceeds 15º C (59º F), we'll explore its most notable features. We'll see places like the choir, the Stations of the Cross and the water mirrors, plus you'll find out the history of how this temple was built. In 2007, it was named the first of the Seven Wonders of Colombia due to its incredible adaptation to the geology of the area.

Next, you'll have 1 hour of free time in Zipaquirá to get some lunch on your own and stroll around its historic center. You'll be able to see the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, traditionally built from stone and not salt, and its picturesque colonial-style buildings. To make this experience even more special, if you choose the morning tour, you'll be able to enjoy different typical Colombian tastings along the way.

Finally, we'll return to Bogotá.
