Join us on a trip to El Totumo volcano to discover its remarkable warm mud crater. You'll also get to bathe in its mud, known for its medicinal properties. Not to be missed!
Tour Details
On the day of the trip, we'll leave Cartagena and head north to El Totumo volcano, a 15-meter (49-foot) crater whose summit holds a pool of medicinal mud.
The volcano and its simple infrastructure are maintained by local residents, who will accompany us up the stairway to the top. From up there, we'll take in a beautiful, pristine landscape dominated by the Totumo lagoon. We'll then step into the mud crater itself, where it's impossible to sink despite the pool seeming to have no bottom.
Legend has it that El Totumo was once a fire-spewing volcano until a local priest poured holy water into it, convinced the crater was the Devil's work.
Once inside, you'll quickly discover that it's mud and not lava, and you can coat your skin in mineral-rich clay. After relaxing in the warm mud bath, you'll rinse off in fresh water to clean up.
Refreshed and with noticeably softer skin, we'll begin the journey back to Cartagena, arriving at the starting point approximately 5 hours after departure.
