At the scheduled time, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Cartagena de Indias and head to San Felipe de Barajas Castle, a masterpiece of military engineering built during the colonial era.
During our guided tour of San Felipe Castle, we'll learn about the fascinating history of this spectacular 16th-century fortress. We’ll also explore the strategic role in defending Cartagena and discover its key role in repelling attacks by pirates and foreign powers.
Throughout the tour of the castle, we’ll walk along its walls, through its tunnels, and up to its lookouts while hearing stories of battles, military strategies, and interesting facts that shaped Cartagena’s past as one of the most important ports in the Caribbean Sea.
Right at the foot of the castle is the Cartagena Chocolate Museum, where we’ll continue the tour by visiting its exhibition. There, we’ll explore the tradition of Colombian cacao, recognized worldwide for its quality and flavor. We’ll also learn about the origins of cacao and discover its cultural significance. We’ll discuss its artisanal production process and trace its evolution into one of the country’s most iconic products.
We'll conclude the guided tour of the museum with a tasting of a traditional chocolate drink prepared using artisanal methods, allowing you to savor the aromas and nuances of the famous Colombian cacao.
Finally, we’ll wrap up this 2.5-hour tour at the museum entrance. From there, you can take a stroll around the castle at your leisure or return to your hotel on your own.
