Explore the great diversity of flora & fauna and magnificent rainforest landscapes on this hiking route through the Otún Quimbaya Sanctuary.
At 8 am, we'll pick you up at your hotel to make our way to the Otún Quimbaya Fauna and Flora Sanctuary, located southwest of Pereira.
We'll travel 18 kilometers by road to reach this natural reserve located in the Cordillera Central branch of the Colombian Andes. The Otún Quimbaya Sanctuary is characterized by its great biodiversity, home to loads of bird species, insects, small mammals and plants.
Upon arrival, we'll embark on a 2-kilometer hiking route through one of the trails that crosses the Andean rainforest. The hike will be of low difficulty and you'll be accompanied by an environmental guide who will lead you through trails and mountains to discover the most beautiful landscapes of this protected area.
During the walk, we'll stop for a typical local lunch consisting of one dish and a drink, before we continue exploring the area.
The Otún Quimbaya Sanctuary is also dedicated to the protection of endangered species. We'll be able to find birds such as the moustached antpitta, the multicolored tanager and the torrent duck, as well as mammals like monkeys, tapirs and pacaranas. The latter is the second-largest rodent in Colombia!
Finally, we will return to Pereira and drop you off at your hotel at 2 pm.
