Tour Details
We'll meet at Finca La Esperanza, a coffee oasis just 20 minutes from El Poblado and very close to the Itagüí metro station. Ready to dive headfirst into the wonderful world of Colombian coffee?
Once there, our hosts will welcome us and kick off an unforgettable sensory experience. We'll start with a fascinating talk about the origins of coffee, tracing its journey from commercial consumption to the refined world of specialty coffee.
During this introduction, we'll learn to distinguish the different processing methods used on coffee farms, discovering how the washed, honey, and natural processes can radically transform the flavor of each bean.
After taking in the theory, we'll head out for a walk through the coffee fields. Among the bushes and green landscapes, we'll analyze the differences between arabica varieties and, if the season allows, actively take part in harvesting ripe coffee cherries. The walk will also take us through the pulping and drying stages, 2 crucial steps where the final quality of the product is determined.
To wrap up with the best possible taste, we'll return to the farmhouse for a professional brewing session. Using a variety of methods, we'll prepare 3 coffee-based drinks while conducting a sensory analysis of the results.
Finally, we'll savor the nuances of the local harvest and learn to appreciate the balance and complexity of Colombian coffee before wrapping up this 3-hour activity.
