The Big Bus hop-on hop-off bus in Athens offers various routes to discover the Greek capital's main monuments comfortably and practically. The vehicle has two storeys, an open-top roof, and an audio guide in English that will reveal the most important facts of each place we drive by.
The bus has three different routes, depending on the option you select:
- Red Route (1 hour and 40 minutes): perfect to explore the best of Athens' rich heritage. This route drives past iconic spots like the Acropolis, the Temple of Zeus, the Parliament, and the National Library.
- Purple Route - Piraeus (1 hour and 15 minutes): this route will allow you to explore the port city of Piraeus, passing by the harbour, the Municipal Theatre, and even the Acropolis.
- Green Route (1 hour and 40 minutes): in this case, you'll enjoy picturesque views of the Athenian Riviera. You'll get to see the Flisvos Marina, Aghios Kosmas Beach, Kavouri Beach, and Astir Beach.

Types of Ticket
During the booking process, you'll be able to choose one of the following options:
- 48-Hour Ticket for the Red Route: if you choose this option, you'll be able to hop on and hop off as many times as you'd like over the course of 48 hours at any of the bus stops on the Red Route.
- 48-Hour Ticket for All Routes: with this option, you'll be able to hop on and off as many times as you'd like over the course of 48 hours at any of the bus stops on all 3 routes.
- 72-Hour Ticket for All Routes: if you wish to make the most of the sightseeing bus for more time, you can choose this option. You'll have 72 hours to hop on and off at any of the bus stops on all 3 lines.
How Does It Work
The ticket for Big Bus' sightseeing bus is valid for 48 or 72 hours from the first time you use it. During this time, you can hop on and off the bus as many times as you'd like. All tickets are valid for 14 days from the date of purchase.
Schedule & Frequency
- Red Route (1 hour and 40 minutes): from 8:35 am to 6:20 pm, approximately every 20 minutes
- Purple Route - Piraeus (1 hour and 15 minutes): from 9:40 pm to 5 pm every 40 minutes
- Green Route (1 hour and 40 minutes): first departures at 9 am and 11 am; afterward, departures every 60 minutes until 5 pm
