Tour Details
We'll meet at the scheduled time at the info point on Corso Italia, where our guide will welcome us and immediately introduce us to the truly unique history of Gorizia. The city is a real cross-border gem, a place where different communities and cultures have coexisted and blended for centuries. A sort of Italian Berlin, but with the unmistakable charm of Mitteleuropa.
We'll begin our walk along lively Via Garibaldi. This will be the perfect opportunity to admire the exterior of the magnificent Palazzo Attems Santa Croce and enjoy a short stop in its peaceful park. Just a few steps away, we'll find ourselves in front of the Cathedral of Saints Ilario and Taziano, a symbol of the city's faith and resilience.
And now, ready for a short climb? A 10-minute ascent awaits us to reach Borgo Castello. We assure you the effort will be well worth it! From this hill, you'll enjoy extraordinary panoramic views over the entire city, stretching as far as neighboring Slovenia. The medieval castle, an imposing 11th-century fortress, awaits us with its ancient walls, silent witnesses to countless stories.
Descending from the hill, we'll cross the heart of the historic center to reach one of the most moving parts of the tour: cross-border Gorizia. We'll arrive at the Rafut Border Crossing, once an impassable frontier and today a symbol of unity. Here, we'll visit the Pass Museum to truly understand what it meant to live on a border, and for the most curious, there's also the chance to explore the stories told at the Smuggling Museum.
Our 4.5-hour tour will end in the scenic Piazza della Vittoria.
