On this tour of São Miguel, we'll take you to discover the most iconic landscapes of the greenest island of the Azores with an unforgettable itinerary.
We'll meet at the designated time in front of the SATA Building in Ponta Delgada to begin our adventure in São Miguel. Ready to discover everything this island has to offer? Let's go!
After a 1-hour road trip, we'll make our first stop at the mirador Vista do Rei, where we'll admire the stunning Lagoa Verde and Lagoa Azul (Green Lagoon and Blue Lagoon) of Sete Cidades. This spectacle in nature will leave you breathless! These lagoons are a protected landscape and one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Portugal.
We'll continue crossing the island by heading to the historic Gorreana tea plantation, 1 hour and 15 minutes away from Sete Cidades. Did you know it's the oldest working tea plantation in Europe? Here, you'll learn about the production process of this infusion and taste its most famous varieties. This plantation has been harvesting this wonderful product since 1883, conserving its original traditions from the East.
Our next stop will be at Furnas, a unique volcanic region known for its hot springs. Here, you'll have 1.5 hours of free time so you can eat and have the chance to try the traditional cozido das Furnas, a stew cooked underground thanks to the natural heat.
Afterward, we'll set off to Vila Franca do Campo, São Miguel's first capital, famous for its islet and delicious traditional desserts. Finally, we'll visit the viewpoint of Lagoa do Fogo, where you can enjoy one of the most spectacular views of the island. Take a picture!
We'll conclude this 11-hour tour of São Miguel back at Ponta Delgada.
