Touring the Asturian capital with a private guide tour in English is a unique opportunity to discover the important heritage of Oviedo. History awaits you at every corner!
Description
The group will meet at the scheduled time at Plaza de Alfonso II El Casto, an apt place to recount the history of Oviedo, the capital of the region of Asturias. Before we begin the tour of the city, we'll pay attention to his coat of arms. Did you know that bears the name of undefeated, noble and heroic among others?
Walking the streets of the city, we'll discover how Oviedo left behind its royal roots and became the most important commercial city in Asturias. We'll walk to Plaza de la Consitución, demarcated by the Oviedo Town Hall and by the San Isidoro El Real Church, an old Jesuit school.
The private tour will then continue through one of the most charming squares in the city: el Fontán. The unique beauty of this square is one such that Alias Clarín was inspired to portray the atmosphere of the market square in Vetusta, the fictitious La Regenta, off of it.
Strolling through the historic streets of this novelesque city we'll arrive at Plaza de la Escandalera, one of the most elegant corners of the city. The bourgeois-style buildings of the square, the central fountain and its incessant atmosphere, make La Escandalera one of the essential stops on this private tour. In addition, we'll also have the opportunity to take in "La Maternidad", a Botero statue.
Before returning to the meeting point we'll walk alongside the Campoamor Theatre. Do you recognize the façade? Perhaps, as this is where the annual Princess of Asturias awards take place.
Upon our return to Plaza de Alfonso II, we'll observe the Gothic facade and the incredible main doorway of Oviedo's cathedral, the most important temple in the city. Just in front of the cathedral, we'll finish our private tour of Oviedo after 2 hours of touring the city of La Regenta.
