The eruption of Vesuvius covered Pompeii under a mixture of ash and lava. On this small-group day trip, we’ll discover its history, admire views of the Gulf of Naples from the slopes of the volcano, and walk among the remains of temples, theatres, and mosaics that tell the story of daily life in ancient Rome.
Day Trip Details
At the indicated time, we'll meet at the entrance to the Starhotels Terminus, right in the center of Naples. From there, we'll begin a trip that combines archaeology and nature in two of the most iconic places in Campania. Let’s go.
First, we'll take a 1-hour journey to Mount Vesuvius. Once we reach 1,000 m (3,281 ft) above sea level, we’ll begin the walk up to the edge of the crater. The effort will be worth it!
From this point, you’ll enjoy impressive views of the Gulf of Naples. We’ll also explain the geological details and the history of the most important eruptions of Vesuvius. A fascinating experience!
After about 1 hour and 30 minutes of visiting, we’ll descend along a panoramic road to a traditional pizzeria located on the slopes of the volcano, where we’ll stop for lunch. You’ll be able to enjoy an authentic Neapolitan pizza, choosing between the classic margherita or marinara options, accompanied by a drink.
With your appetite satisfied, we’ll head to Pompeii, one of the most famous archaeological sites in the world. For 2 hours, we’ll take a guided tour to discover the remains of this Roman city that was buried by the eruption of Vesuvius in the year 79 AD.
Accompanied by the guide, we’ll walk through the main areas excavated since the 18th century: its cobbled streets, baths, ovens, theatres, temples, and luxurious villas decorated with frescoes and mosaics that still preserve their original color. You’ll be amazed!
Finally, we’ll begin the return journey to Naples and say goodbye at the starting point after a total of 8 hours of touring.
Itinerary Changes
In the winter season, from November 1 to March 31, the order of the itinerary may be reversed. That is, we’ll visit Pompeii in the morning and Vesuvius in the afternoon.
