The Picasso Experience at the Reina Sofía is a tour during which we'll delve into the symbolism of the Málaga-born painter’s most important work: Guernica.
The Picasso Experience
Art lovers, welcome! We’ll meet at the entrance to the Reina Sofía Museum, specifically at 52 Calle de Santa Isabel, to begin a guided tour focusing on Pablo Picasso.
Once we’re all together, we’ll head inside the museum to uncover all the secrets of the life, artistic development, and hidden stories behind the works of this painter from Málaga. Unsurprisingly, the Picasso Experience will centre on the artist’s masterpiece: Guernica, from 1937.
The guide will provide an in-depth analysis of this painting, explaining its symbolism, the historical context in which it was created, the Spanish Civil War, and the preliminary sketches Picasso produced before painting this iconic mural.
We'll also take a journey through the different stages of Picasso’s life and view the most important paintings by the Spanish artist held by the Reina Sofía Museum, such as Woman in Blue, Head of a Woman, and The Swimmer. To round off the tour, we'll admire works by other great Spanish artists, such as Dalí and Miró, which are essential for understanding the artistic movements of the period.
The Picasso Experience will also invite you to discuss with the guide the various elements we identify in the paintings, reflect on the artist, and share the emotions these works evoke in us.
Finally, after 1.5 hours on the guided tour, we’ll say our goodbyes and bring this journey into Picasso’s world to a close.
