If you’re in Ivalo, you can’t miss out on experiencing the most traditional culture of Finnish Lapland. To do so, we’ll meet at 12 Ivalontie and head to Inari, where we’ll visit a reindeer farm and the Sami Museum. A must-see!
We’ll travel by minibus to a traditional reindeer farm, where you’ll have the chance to meet Santa’s helpers up close. Upon arrival, an expert caretaker will tell us all about reindeer, including their way of life, the care they receive, and the unique characteristics of Lapland’s most beloved animal. We’ll also learn about their habits, and you’ll even get to feed them.
After this close encounter with nature, we’ll head to the Inari Sámi Museum, Finland’s national museum of the Sámi people. It was named European Museum of the Year in 2024! Here, we’ll learn all about Sámi history and Arctic nature through its various interactive exhibits.
The Inari Sámi Museum, also known as Siida, is a world-renowned cultural center where Sámi historical and spiritual heritage blends with the rich biodiversity of the Arctic environment. It features numerous artifacts that perfectly reflect the lives of the indigenous peoples of Lapland, such as traditional clothing, hunting tools, and, of course, the iconic kuksa—the handmade wooden cup native to the Sámi people.
To round out this cultural immersion in the best possible way, we’ll step inside a traditional Sámi teepee to enjoy a meal cooked over an open fire. Delicious!
Finally, after 6 hours of activities, we’ll return to the starting point and wrap up the trip.
