On this 4-day trekking route we'll go deep into the Andean forests located at the foot of the Tolima volcano. We'll discover its biodiversity until we reach the waterfall El Salto, an activity for the more adventurous!
El Salto Waterfall 4-day Private Hiking Tour
Day 1: Ibague - Finca Santa Clara
At 6 am we'll meet at the Carrera 4d in Ibagué. There we'll get into a 4x4 for a 40 minute drive to the place where we'll start the hiking route. Are you ready for the adventure?
Before starting the trek, we'll have a breakfast that will give us plenty of energy for the day ahead! Once ready, we'll walk through this mountainous terrain in the direction of the Santa Clara farm. In the eight hours it'll take us to complete the trail, we'll pass several waterfalls and arrive at a viewpoint that will offer us excellent views of the area. Don't forget your camera!
At the end of the day, we'll arrive at Finca Santa Clara farm for a delicious dinner and rest at the campsite until the next day.
Day 2: Finca Santa Clara - Finca Meridiano
On the second day, we'll recharge our batteries with a good breakfast to start the morning off right. When we're ready, we'll set off on a fantastic five-hour hike to the next campsite, located at Finca Meridiano.
On the way, we'll enjoy the wonderful views of the Nevado del Tolima, did you know that this volcano is over 5200 metres (17060 metres) high? We'll follow the path while taking in the views of the San Romualdo river canyon.
We'll finish the day arriving at Finca Meridiano to have dinner and sleep at the campsite.
Day 3: Finca Meridiano - Finca El Salto
The next day, we'll have breakfast and leave at 8 am to start the hiking route. With our strength restored, we'll start the day's excursion, which will last about eight hours.
We'll walk over uneven terrain and as we ascend, the weather will become increasingly humid. We'll continue our hike through the San Romualdo river canyon and reach the El Salto waterfall, the views will leave you speechless!
Finally, we'll arrive at the rural inn or 'finca' of the El Salto School, one of the most beautiful in the area, home to young farmers and a refuge for mountain lovers. Here we'll have a delicious lunch of soup, vegetables, rice, meat, juice or lemonade, and rest until the next day.
Day 4: Finca El Salto - Ibagué
On the last day, after breakfast, we'll take the road towards Juntas. During the five-hour drive we'll enjoy the surrounding landscape at the foot of the snow-capped volcano. We'll also pass through the Combeima Canyon, the gateway to the Los Nevados National Park.
Arriving in Juntas, we'll get into the vehicle to start the return trip to the centre of Ibagué. There we'll finish the hiking route at 5 pm. See you next time!
