Immerse yourself in the history of 18th-century Cádiz on this guided tour, discovering the most iconic monuments from its golden age: the Cathedral and the Tavira Tower.
We'll meet in the Plaza de San Juan de Dios, in the heart of Cádiz, to begin an exciting tour of two of the most important monuments of the city's golden age.
After a brief stroll through the picturesque Old Town and wandering under the Arco de la Rosa, an archway that was a gate in the Medieval city walls, you'll reach the Cádiz Cathedral. Local gaditanos call it the "New Cathedral", as it was built when the existing 16th-century church became too small for the growing population. Its fusion of architectural styles - from Baroque to Rococo to Neoclassical - reflects the fact that it took 116 years to build.
Next, you'll head to the Torre Tavira, the tallest tower in Cádiz's old town. After admiring its baroque-style architecture, we'll ascend one of its 129 lookout towers and enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of the city and the bay.
Tavira Tower is also home to a Cámara Oscura, which you'll have the opportunity to use to see a live, moving projection of what's happening outside, using the periscope. The impressive optical illusion makes far-off objects seem much closer than they really are!
The tour includes admission to the Cathedral Museum. However, due to time constraints, we won't visit it during the tour. At the end of the tour, you'll be free to visit it at your own pace, without the guide.
To enjoy the view from the Tavira Tower, you must be able to climb 173 steps.
