Step back in time and learn about the history of the Cold War in the German capital with this Berlin Wall tour. You'll walk through the remains of the wall as you discover what life was like in a totally divided city.

Berlin Wall Tour

Following the Allied victory in 1945, Germany was divided into four parts controlled by the victorious Allied forces: France, Britain, The USA, and the USSR. Within the Russian zone, Berlin itself was divided, but the relationship between Russia and the Western powers deteriorated to such an extent that by 1949 the capital had been divided into East and West with the famous Berlin Wall erected, physically dividing the two. This tour will dig deeper into the peculiar stalemate between East and West Germany.

At the scheduled time, we'll meet up near the Tränenpalast (Palace of Tears) subway stop and set off on a tour that will take us to some of the most important locations around the city during the Cold War.

Our first stop will be the Nordbahnhof ghost station, right on the edge of what was "the two Berlins". The history of this place will leave you with goosebumps.

Then we'll take in the views of the Berlin Wall at the Bernauer Strasse Memorial. This is the best-preserved section of the 155 kilometers (96 miles) that once divided the German capital. Here, the guide will tell us all about the Wall, from its construction to the stories of different fugitives who risked their lives to be reunited with their loved ones - it was here that some tensest moments were experienced in this area during those years.

We'll walk through what was then known as the 'death strip' to see the only place in Berlin where the two layers of the Wall are still intact. We'll also see the watchtower and the Church of Reconciliation.

Finally, after a three-hour tour, we'll say our goodbyes.

Important Information

To be able to take part in the tour it's necessary to have a metro pass for zones A and B. If you do not have a ticket at the beginning of the tour, our guide will help you to buy one.
