Cooking Class Details
At the designated time, we'll meet at Calle 68, in the heart of the neighborhood of El Prado, to start our cooking class of Barranquilla cuisine. Are you ready to dive into the world of Colombian flavors? Let's begin!
We'll greet you with a welcome drink and a short introduction to the ingredients that are part of the gastronomic roots of the Colombian Caribbean. You'll be surprised to discover how each ingredient has its own story to tell!
During the workshop, you'll learn how to knead, fill, wrap, and cook the delicious traditional recipe of Colombian tamales. This scrumptious dish consists of a mix of corn filled with different ingredients that is carefully wrapped in banana leaves and steamed.
You'll feel the texture of the corn as you grind it with a manual mill, an ancient process that will connect you to the region's traditions. You'll also prepare a chicha ligera, a drink made with corn, that will transport you to the flavors of the past.
With the ground corn, we'll prepare three typical dishes. We'll make sesame buns with a soft and fluffy texture. You'll also cook buns stuffed with artisanal chorizo, a coastal cuisine gem with a juicy filling. Of course, we'll prepare a mini hallaca costeña, a dish including meat, vegetables, and spices. It'll be an explosion of flavors!
Once you have finished preparing your dishes, it'll be time to taste everything you have made. We'll enjoy the tamales with natural juices and homemade sauces like ají costeño and hogao criollo, as well as toppings such as shredded cheese and smoked eggplant. Delicious!
Finally, we'll say our goodbyes after 3 hours filled with flavor, tradition, and lots of fun.
